Here a scan of the front & back of the On Stage Japan Paper Sleeve CD I got a few weeks ago. They seemed to have a "sepia tone" to the picture rather than black & white.

These Japan Paper Sleeve CDs have incredible sound, much much better than the original U.S. release or the 1999 expanded re-release.

This is one cd worth seeking out......An incredible album to begin with and this edition has the sound quality to match the content.

You know something, I think this Japanese cover is a bit better than the original version released here in the U.S. Must be the orange border???? laughing1.gif

The ON STAGE album is my all time favourite one.
Why ??
Because that's the very first album i ever bought when it came out, followed shortly by IN PERSON, FROM ELVIS IN MEMPHIS and THAT'S THE WAY IT IS.

i agree the sound is far superior , i have noticed a dip in the sound on sweet caroline just 1:36 , but a great release and very much welcomed indeed, i just wish that they would attempt a release of ELVIS IN CONCERT - i believe that this release deserves a revamp badly , by whoever, ftd, bmg, sony, bmg japan.

There is a in concert paper sleeve release...the sound on that release is pretty good (specially the in concert tracks..the on tour recordings are also improved but not that much)
I have this japanese release and it's played more than the rca/bmg release from many years ago, but we are all still waiting for a sony/bmg release that is remixed and remastered by vic or sebastian, they do a fantastic job on all the new releases (with a downer on elvis at the movies, the sound on that one is going all over the place...)
If they only remix the sound on the live recordings with the drums in the middle and not as always on the left channel...we want a sound that sounds like you were there...elvis in the middle with the drums, james burton on the right with the backing vocals, on the left channel jerry sheff, glen d hardin, and on both channels the orchestra! Listen to the dvd Elvis TTWII SE on you'll hear the almost perfect mix of a concert.

when the LP "On stage" was released by RCA-Japan for the first time there was a different dialogue to some of the tracks comparing with the US release.
the quadro LP has different dialogue too while the tracks were the same.

I don't know if these CD releases were taken from these first japanese masters or other masters.

the japanese quadro LP with the different dialogue between the tracks was the source for the import CD Pure Stage power (Mac records) as released in 1992.
