Released back in 1985, this was and still remains a favorite of mine, despite its considerably short running time (only 12 tracks total on this).
This again was released back when Gregg Geller was in charge of Elvis' Catalog at RCA, and looking at what was released during his time in charge leaves one very impressed.....Smart compilations for their time!
This CD focused on Blues songs ranging from 1954 (Tomorrow Night) through 1971 (Merry Christmas Baby). A brief description of the song, the recording date, the titile of the original album the song appeared on, and who originally covered the song, were provided on the back cover. For example: "Reconsider Baby - Recorded April 1960/from the Elvis Is Back! album/original by Lowell Fulson. Peter Guralnick, THE Elvis biographer, wrote the liner notes for this release.
Released for the first time, oficially, is the up-tempo version of "Ain't That Loving You Baby".......A raucous blues/rock number that sat on a shelf in the RCA vaults for for 27 years for reasons unknown!!! We also saw the 1st official release on CD of One Night of SIN, which had the original, unaltered lyrics....This CD was really quite a treat in its day!
The artwork was well thought out and fitting, if rather simple. One of my favorite CDs that still finds its way to my player on a regular basis!!!
